Special Topic classes

Finding Calm in the Storm

Health is our natural state of being. In this class, we reawaken our natural capacity to heal through rest. We will practice slow movement, breathing & relaxation techniques and meditation to downshift our bodies and minds. This is a great class for those who have difficulty meditating or relaxing on their own. A fully immersive class. When you feel better, so do those around you.

Mindfulness for You, Mindfulness for Your Students

How do we bring mindfulness into the classroom when we may not be experts? What do we need to consider? Learn self-practices and how to adapt your own practice for different age groups. Leave with scripts you can practice at home. Best scheduled as a professional development program with a minimum of 1.5 hours.

Change Habits with Mindfulness

Are your habits detracting from your wellbeing? How can mindfulness, developing a deeper awareness of attention, actually help us change our habits? Is there a way that our daily living can be aligned with greater goals in the form of habits? Based on Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, Dr. Judson Brewer, and James Clear’s work.

Mindfulness & Technology

Mindfulness can give us a lens through which to view our most ingrained habits. Our attachment to technology can be a habit that needs to be reviewed now and again. In traditional mindfulness meditation, we begin to notice that we are either attached or averse to many things in our daily experience. As we notice this tendency, we can begin to distance ourselves from our impulses to act from this dis/like. We will use meditation to reflect, along with questions to open the pathway of insight into our technology habit.

Soundbath

Come for an immersive sound bath experience. In this class, practice “being.” Lay down and receive the healing of sonic resonance moving through your body. Sound has the power to heal and transform emotions, physical sensations, and even the body. With sound waves we can bring our brain wave pattern into a more coherent state facilitating the body’s natural ability to heal. (Due to the specific set up and large instruments required, this is at a special price; please inquire)

Deep Relaxation with Singing Bowls

Many of us experience the dis-ease of busy-ness with no break until we collapse into bed at the end of the day. If we don’t learn how to return to a calm baseline, our stress may grow day after day and lead to long term, chronic stress. Learn a body-based technique to deeply relax. This class will include the relaxing tones of singing bowls to enhance the experience. Please bring a mat and blanket and pillow if you choose. This will be done laying on the ground. Mats will be provided by Inward Office. (Due to the specific set up and large instruments required, this is at a special price; please inquire)

Yoga Nidra & Soundscapes

For many of us, we aren’t resting enough. Learn a step-by-step technique called Yoga Nidra, or wakeful sleep, that allows us to release deeply held tension from the muscles and mind. This technique has proven to be useful for insomnia, releasing deeply held stress in homeless and veteran populations. It has been recommended as a complementary treatment method for PTSD by the Department of Defense. This class will include a short “soundscape” at the end which could be the use of instruments for even deeper release.

Aging Gracefully: Lessons on Longevity

Aging Gracefully gives you positive support in the process of aging. We will cover four topics: bone strength, an upright posture, balance, and spine-based movement. This workshop is packed with essential lessons and accessible movement appropriate for all levels.

History of Yoga

Sometimes the point of yoga is misunderstood as body conditioning or flexibility training. Learn the historical roots of yoga, its 8-part philosophy, and try the poses included in the research study on yoga for carpel tunnel syndrome. Strictly taught from a historical standpoint based on ancient Indian texts. Can be combined with an experiential yoga workshop.

How to Use a Neti Pot

Do you suffer from allergies? Have frequent colds or congestion in the wintertime? Learn how to use a neti pot, as an alternative to nasal sprays. Did you know a neti pot is an ancient Indian cleansing technique? Bring your neti pot to class and learn proper use and its history and application. Even if you have tried one and found it painful, we will give you insight into how to use it with ease. You will need to bring your own supplies to class: a neti pot and a large bowl. We will provide salt and warm water if class is held in-person. Combines well with a breathing technique workshop.

Feel Good Goal Setting

What do we need to consider when making healthy lifestyle changes? Consider if your goal is achievable and in what time. What kind of motivation do you need to get going with your goals? Use a worksheet to reflect on implementation of your new healthy routine. Reflection questions, meditation, and small actionable steps will be included.

Introduction to Non-Violent Communication

NVC (non-violent communication) is a language of feelings, needs and compassionate understanding. This workshop is an introduction to Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s work and gives us real life tools to manage disagreements, connect with our own and others’ emotions and create new strategies for peace and understanding.
